Hello everyone, As early as this weekend to as late as next, I'm planning to install Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne for the first time since 2004. I was planning to install via the digital copy as opposed to my original retail DVD's, and since it's been well over a decade since I touched the game I wanted to ask a few questions both about the install process on modern systems as well as about. Warcraft III: Frozen Throne Patch is a free software update released by Blizzard Entertainment, for the Windows and Mac versions of their game, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. This patch only works for WarCraft III with the Frozen Throne expansion pack installed. If your current version is patched to version 1.25b, you will only have to install the upgrade patch version to 1.26a.
Hello everyone,
As early as this weekend to as late as next, I'm planning to install Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne for the first time since 2004. I was planning to install via the digital copy as opposed to my original retail DVD's, and since it's been well over a decade since I touched the game I wanted to ask a few questions both about the install process on modern systems as well as about the state of the game itself. My system specs are: - Windows 10 Home Anniversary Update - Intel Core-i5 4440 @ 3.10 GHz - 8 GB Ram - nVidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB with the latest drivers Now, for my questions: 1) Is there anything special I need to do when installing the game, or is it just as simple as the digital install of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction? 2) I've read I should run as an administrator to properly patch the game via Battle.net Classic, but I've seen it mentioned that you should always run the game as an administrator. Can someone clarify as to why? I've seen something else about save games (I assume the Campaign) not working properly unless you're running as an admin. 3) I've also read that the Campaign's cinematics are presently not working on Windows 10; apparently it's just a black screen. Can they be skipped, and is it only CG cinematics or in-game cinematics as well? 4) I know the game now supports 1920x1080, though stretched. Does it support resolutions for its original aspect ratio still? 5) Will GeForce Experience's Share (Shadowplay) work with Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne? 6) Back in the day, I used to play a lot of Battle.net's automated Tournaments. Are they still a thing, or is it Ladder matchmaking only? I noticed the 'Tournament' section has been removed from Mojo Stormstout's Guide. 7) Overall, what is the state of Online play via Battle.net? How's the matching system, and are there a lot of map hackers? If so, is [email protected] still the email address to report them or is there a different method now? 8) Since I bowed out of the game around the time the Firelord and Goblin Tinker were introduced, I suspect the meta has changed a good bit from what I remember. Anything major I should know about (I'll mainly be relearning everything since I don't remember a lot anyway, but I'd be interested to know about any dramatic meta changes)? Thanks all for your time and replies!
1) Yes.
2) The normal way should be running without admin but there is some problem that once you run it w/o admin you cannot log in to bnet. My recomendation is to try first w/o admin and then if you cannot play online, run as admin. The thing is, theres a certain exploit (not widely spreaded) that it could take the control of your machine if you run w3 as admin. 3) I'd recomend you to wait till the new patch is released (Q1 2017) so you can enjoy w3 without any kind of issue (we all hope). 4) I don't think they changed any of this. 5) I suppose it will but I'd recomend you again 3). 6) In RoC it has been completely off since years, but in TFT it's still running. The problem is that it's full of hackers and bots. 7) A freaking lot of maphackers, loading hackers, botters and so on. But the worst: channel flooders and spammers. These were the real ones that killed w3. Channels are empty. 8) Can't tell you about this.
Thanks for all the answers @GhoST!
I'll still be loading it up soon as some friends and I want to play each other. For the Campaigns though, I don't mind missing the cinematics since I've seen them all before so long as I can skip them and still play the missions proper. 'Reign of Chaos' never had automated Tournaments, actually. That was added in 'Frozen Throne.' It sounds though like public multiplayer is not in good shape at all. I'm assuming that Private games or versus the AI is the best way to go now?
